This actually happens a fair bit- where I have a really specific piece of music in mind for a scene and nothing in my royalty free/public domain library really fits as well as the copyrighted music would've. The remix of Piccolo and a Cane worked great for the end product, don't get me wrong, but in my heart it'll always be Blowing Off Steam.
I might start posting these 'illegal versions' more often, if anyone would be interested in the insights it would provide into my music tastes.
