December Review: The Fox and the Hound (1981)

I'm one of the people who remains bitter about this movie to this very day. I'd like to thank you for finally helping me explain why this particular sad ending has always left such a sour taste in my mouth. I read Where the Red Fern Grows twice as a kid, it broke my heart both times but I never felt like it ended wrong the way this movie makes me feel. Seeking A Friend for the End of the World (great movie) makes me cry every time but I wouldn't change a second of the ending because it's built and earned. The Fox and the Hound however is a movie that's all about friendship that ends with a friendship broken and not because the two friends actually wanted it but because the world pushed them apart. The Fox and The Hound has always felt to me like the Disney movie where the bad guys won but I've never been able to explain that properly before now. Thanks. :)
