"The Creative Process" Blog #3: Zombie Inspiration

G'day Tribe. Ben here, with a brand new blog article about what it's like behind the mic. :) Typically, these blogs are for $5 patrons and up, but I'm making this one available to EVERYONE, just so you guys can see a little of what this reward looks like. Enjoy!

So, yesterday was a good voice day for me... which some of you know, I've been having a rough time with that. Went to the doc this week, had the horrid scope down the nose, and I am mending, healing, and getting better all the time, so yay for that.

When I first started my channel, (some of you may remember this, if you've been around that long) all my audios were whispered. That was partly because that's what a lot of my fave ASMRtists did, and partly because I was a little self-conscious hearing myself recorded and played back. Nobody likes hearing their own voice, I think. Ha!

But I got more and more requests from viewers to do full, normal-spoken audios. So I decided to just go for it. And here we are today. :)

Buuuut, with the voice pain I've had lately, I've found that whispering is actually less painful than speaking, and it's less fatiguing.  (Even though most experts say whispering is just as hard on your voice as normal speaking, whatever. It feels better, so if I'm screwed either way, might as well do what hurts less.)

THAT BEING SAID, I thought to myself, "What kind of audio could I do that would be justified in being whispered start to finish?"  Hmmmm. Something where people have to be quiet.... a predatory environment, perhaps?  Aha!!!! ZOMBIES. I didn't have a script for this, but I didn't care. Story ideas began flooding my mind and I turned on the mic, hit record, and let my imagination carry me.

I imagined my character as having been a doctor before the outbreak hit... and even though the Hippocratic oath has long been irrelevant, he won't let go of it. He's a soul that is incapable of letting himself do harm, or leaving behind someone in need. Even so, he's a bit jaded, callous, and distrustful. Of course, you'll find out why as the series develops. :)

The opening episode begins with my character finding the listener in trouble, and stepping in to help. But as it turns out, the listener didn't WANT help, nor did the Doctor really  WANT to help... so strangely, the two are brought together in detest of one another, forced to rely on each other for survival.  Will bitterness and annoyance lead to romance, though? Could they one day be friends... or even something more? Time will tell.... :)

Comments

This storyline is less about zombies, and more about the people. :)

Yes it will :)

I hope you feel better so and heal quickly. Will this one be a series???

Leiah

First of all, hope your voice/throat continue to heal quickly. Second, zombies have never been my thing (y'know, blood/guts/brains - can't), but a cheeky Ben version with no visuals will definitely be worth checking out! 👍
