Encounters Book Preview

Hey folks! James here! As many of you know, we're getting ready for a big crowdfunding campaign here at MCDM on December 9th! The crown jewel of this crowdfunding crown is a campaign-length adventure called Crack the Sun, but there's also going to be other Draw Steel goodies as part of the Backerkit campaign, including adventures, player options, and a new core rulebook available to anyone who pledges.

This post is mostly about that new core rulebook, Draw Steel: Encounters. This book contains drop-in lairs, montage tests, negotiations, heroic test examples, and new monsters (called DASTARDS!) you can add to your game. These encounters serve as examples for building your own and can be used with minimal prep time. There's at least 20 of each!

When the crowdfunder goes live next week, it includes a free sample of Draw Steel: Encounters that has a lair, a couple montage tests, a negotiation, and some heroic tests that you can add to your game. (We just decided to add dastards, so no preview for them yet ... but more information will be revealed when we launch the Backerkit campaign next week.) Now, if you're a long-time $8-per-month Patron, I want to remind you that you don't have to contribute to the Backerkit campaign to get the PDF versions of Draw Steel supplements when they come out. Here's a reminder of how the policy works:

When a Draw Steel PDF drops, long-standing patrons at the $8 a month level get it free based on how long they’ve been a patron. You figure this out by dividing the cost of the PDF by 8. You’re paying $8 a month, so if the finished PDF is $40, that means you will get it automatically if you’ve been a patron for the last 5 months (40/8 = 5). It has to be consecutive months before the release date. This is just for Draw Steel and only PDFs. If we make other games or products, they're not covered by this policy. These rewards aren't retroactive. You only get a code for a product if you've been a Patron for the requisite number of consecutive months at the product's release.
