Chapter 218 [Vault]

Far off in the Shatterdome known as “Icebox” a group of men watched a screen, somber looks on their faces as they read the vitals of the pilots of Gipsy Danger. A shatterdome is, in essence, the name of one of the various bases of the Pan Pacific Defense Force, and is where Jaegers are built, repaired, and trained with. It is also here that kaiju remains are experimented on and utilized.

Within this shatterdome was various men and women who served the world to help protect them. And amongst them was Stacker Pentecost, the current Marshall of the Defense Force.

The other was an engineer that worked with the Marshall, and had been for quite some time. The man known as Tendo Choi.

“Sir there’s no signals, what do we do!?” Tendo asked alarmed, as the signal that identified Gipsy as being alive, as well as the signal for the Kaiju had both gone dark. Which usually meant one of two things. One, that both of them had just died, or two, their signals had been disrupted somehow.

In response, Stacker stayed silent, a somber expression on his face, as he believed Gipsy to be dead. But far off in the distance, in the oceans on the outside of Anchorage, Gipsy Danger was alive, and struggling.

Knifehead had its pointed skull ripping through its chest, towards its nuclear reactor heart that was its core. One of its arms was missing, half of its head was missing, and all in all, it was getting absolutely torn apart. And one of its pilots was dead, leaving only Raleigh alive, as he struggled to control the Jaeger under the immense mental strain that it was putting him under.

Pain echoed through Raleigh as she ground and grunted in pain, as he tried his best to use the Jaeger, to move it to his will as he tried to bring up the plasma cannon to rip through the chest of the Kaiju, but he was failing and struggling.

“Fuck! God damnit! Die you fucking monster!” Raleigh screamed, as he began to lift the remaining arm of the Jaeger to fire, only for the Knifehead to slam its massive arms against the remaining one, and began to pull on it, trying to rip it off as Raleigh struggled against the pull.

And just as the remaining arm of the Jaeger was about to be ripped off, and his death would be all but guaranteed. But before it could, before his death would be certain, the massive kaiju stopped, as the sound of crashing echoed through the area, and Raleigh watched with wide eyes as blood began to spurt from the skull of Knifehead, the large chain swords of Obsidian ripping through its back, and into his heart.

Before the kaiju could react, she pulled her blades from its heart and began to stab full force into its neck, over and over. The blood of the Kaiju splurting out of it, and into the seas below, as Raleigh watched wide eyed, as the kaiju dropped, dead.

“W-Who the fuck” Raleigh said, coughing as he struggled to see the Jaeger as it’s light beamed onto him.

Watching him, Obsidian looked at Knifehead, and gripped it, before pulling it behind her, as she began to leave the scene, and leaving Raleigh alone. She trusted that he would find his way back, and she could not afford to stay there and be found. So, she walked off, hauling the kaiju behind her, as she left the Jaeger behind, and began to leave to find a proper place to absorb the kaiju into herself.

After an hour of walking, and leaving Gipsy Danger behind, Obsidian had found a decent island that she hauled the kaiju onto. Placing the large monster onto the island, Obsidian looked it over, wondering what this thing would even give her. She had also managed to find the arm that had been torn from Gipsy, which had one of its plasma cannons on it, and managed to pull that with her as well.

She could tell that if Gipsy hadn’t fought the thing and weakened it, then she likely would have been decimated by the creature. But thanks to their fight and the damaging of Knifehead, she was able to “Sneak” in and rip the ugly mug apart.

‘System, how do I go about assimilating this thing?’

[Simply place your hand against it and the system will do the rest. The same applies to jaeger technology]

‘Alright then, that’s simple’ Obsidian thought, as she placed each of her massive hands onto the plasma cannon and the kaiju corpse, and thought one single word.

‘Assimilate’

And the second she did, she began to feel herself…change, as several notifications began to appear into her vision.

I-19 Plasmacaster (Left Arm) - A powerful particle dispersal cannon that is made to obliterate the targeted Kaiju’s part this is fired at. This version is an older one that takes some time to refine, and cannot be fired rapidly.

Kaiju Heart - The heart of a kaiju that pumps their acidic, poisonous and corruptive blood. You now have a kaiju heart that lays next to your nuclear core, giving you what is essentially a second heart. Kaiju blood flows through your “veins” and strengthens you beyond before. All of your natural capabilities are stronger, you are now immune to the negative effects of kaiju blood. You are now immune to mental side effects from kaiju, can absorb Kaiju faster and easier, and

Water Traversal - You can now traverse the oceans of the world far faster than before, akin to a kaiju. You can now “swim” through the oceans akin to them. And can now go deeper into the ocean with ease.

Kaiju Sensing - You can now sense other kaiju, thanks to you possessing the blood and heart of one. You can sense where they are, and how strong they are.

Sharpened - You have obtained the sharpness of Knifehead. Your entire form and all of it’s weapons are far sharper than before, and can rip through jaeger and kaiju with more ease than before. Category 4 and above Kaiju will not be easily pierced.

Secondary Pair - You can automatically eject a second pair of arms below your current ones. These arms are normally hidden underneath your stomach plates until you need them.

Obsidian’s form strained underneath the changes, as her visor began to glow a dark blue color, her figure beginning to get slightly larger, increasing in size by around 10 meters (going to 90 Meters in height, which is equal to 295 feet).

Her metal form strained and crackled as she stretched, feeling the new power rolling through her form. If she could grin, she would be cackling loudly in happiness as she stared at the words in front of her.

Level - Category III

She had jumped from a weak category I to a category III with one move. Her form was several times stronger than before, and she could now find and hunt other kaiju with much much more ease. She could already sense a couple of kaiju far off in the distance, both about Category II or so, but that was enough for her to want to go and kill them.

Not only that, but upon assimilating the kaiju, she had come to the realization that there was indeed a place that had a large source of Jaegers for her to absorb, without her having to deal with the potential hunt of the remaining ones.

The Oblivion Bay

It was the graveyard of all sorts of jaegers, all jaegers that weren’t put back into service were taken here, making it the absolute perfect place to find and absorb dozens of Jaegers. It had jaegers from mark 1 to mark 3, and would even have the higher leveled jaegers once they were made in the coming years.

Basically a treasure trove. All she needed to do was to search for and find the thing and then she would take advantage of it. But, it would have to wait for a few years, at least until 2023 when Gipsy Danger was taken out of it, preferably 2025 when the “Canon” would begin, and would be when the Bay would be easily accessible.

But for now, it was time to test out the new powers of hers~

Again, no idea who the love interest will be or can be. It won’t be anyone in Pacific Rim, and would probably be someone from a different universe.

I’ll be making a Gears of War fanfic sooner or later. I was thinking of making one with the MC being part of COG and the other as a Berserker in the Locust.
