Chapter 236 [Vault]

Title - HOTD: Reborn as a Dragon | Chapter 3 | Female

________________________________________________

[3rd POV]

It didn’t take Haera too long before she managed to find another place to stay, this time being a smaller building, one that she was pretty sure was some sort of blacksmith. It had all sorts of tools and devices that were likely made for creating all sorts of weapons, including Valyrian steel ones.

And she knew that much as she managed to find ingots of Valyrian steel, rather large ones. Enough that after consuming them all, she managed to get her Valyrian steel claws to 89% completion, meaning she only needed a few more pieces of Valyrian steel and they’d be maxed out and strengthened.

Besides the Valyrian steel, she had also found a LOT of dragon glass inside, which was basically obsidian. And after consuming it all, she got quite an interesting new perk.

[Obsidian Teeth - Your teeth are now a mixture of obsidian and Valyrian steel, making them immensely sharp and durable. The more obsidian you consume the more your teeth are changed. Also conducts fire magic and fire powers better. 92% converted]

Her new teeth now gleamed with a black and silver color, a perfect mixture of obsidian and Valyrian steel. They were also now so sharp they she managed to rip through most things, tearing apart materials she previously couldn’t. It was mainly Valyrian steel that she still couldn’t rip through.

Not a surprise at all.

The fact that she could combine different materials into perks meant that she still needed to find certain gems that could be a huge boon to her. Like diamonds which are incredibly durable. And if she was right, certain gems would allow her to use magic easier than normal.

Sadly her enchantments don’t stack, so she didn’t get anymore in that area.

She had also grown slightly in two other areas. This being Dragon Bones (II) which went up to 19% and Dragon Scales (II) that went up to 9%. The two of them are increasingly hard to progress in.

At the moment Haera was not in the blacksmith, as she had finished her hunt through the building, and was now hiding out in the basement of a house she had found. A place with nothing of note to consume, so she was able to use it to hide out during the night.

She was hoping to find more dragon eggs soon, as they were the best way to grow herself, that or dragon corpses. But she wasn’t sure where to find those. But she had a feeling that they would be where all those creatures were hoarding together.

Sitting in the basement, Haera was wondering how long she should wait, and where she should go next. She wished there was some sort of map, so that she could just find the place that most likely has a shit ton of dragon eggs, but sadly there were no maps. Not from what she has found so far.

So, she basically just needed to wander around until she got lucky. That, or go to the biggest building she could find and enter it. Or a building that looks like it would hold dragons, like some sort of pen or something.

‘I’ve got four years before Aerea gets here. More than enough time to evolve my various abilities to an entirely new level. And while I highly doubt it’ll be able to contend against someone like Balerion, it should give me the means to defend myself against the creatures I have seen so far’ Haera thought, knowing that with enough time, she’d be able to grow beyond any other dragon in this world.

And if she traveled out of Valyria, she might be able to find even more creatures that could be good to consume, like krakens, ice dragons, water dragons, and all sorts of creatures down in Sothoryos.

There was also another type of material that she really wanted to try and find, and that was the metal that Dawn was made out of, down in Dorne. The sword that the Dayne’s use. And that metal was more than likely something very unique, potentially even beyond the power of Valyrian steel.

She wanted to see what sort of effect it would have on her. But she needs to find more of it. And if there was anywhere it would be, it would be here in Valyria. That, or deep in the waters of the world, which would be one of her future goals for exploration once she consumes a kraken or water dragon (if she can actually find one).

Haera wasn’t sure how long she’d be here, in this accursed place, but she imagined it would be a long time. At least until she was fully grown, and had absorbed enough to fight it out with other dragons in Westeros.

Eventually she also wanted to find a human form, but that was not something she could accomplish for a long time. As for that, she would likely need to literally eat a human, and…she wasn’t sure how to feel about that idea.

She’d probably be more comfortable with the idea after she becomes more of a dragon. Afterall, she had only been a dragon for around a day now. She’d need a few months before becoming more willing to do something like that.

Continuing to sit in the basement of the home, Haera paused as she felt the building shake slightly, her eyes widening as a loud earth shattering roar echoed through the area.

‘What the-don’t tell me…don’t tell me there’s a dragon out there that’s like those things!?’ Haera thought in alarm, realizing that there might also be infected dragons out there, and with the way the place was shaking, it had to be a large one.

If there was any, she just hoped there wasn’t a lot, and that they weren’t capable of flying too far. Otherwise that might become a genuine issue, as they’d likely be chasing her the second they see her, and they wouldn’t stop until they got to her.

‘No wonder Balerion struggled so much if there are other dragons here! Especially if they’re infected!’ Haera thought, understanding that the dragons might be a part of the reason why Balerion got injured so much, and why he had been in Valyria for so long after leaving with Aerea.

‘Looks like coming out at night is a no go until I am a fully grown dragon, and I have more Valyrian steel and obsidian flowing through me. Better yet, I should wait until I am literally too large to hide out. but until then, I’ll need to lay low until Balerion gets here’ Haera thought, worried that her becoming too large might be a problem.

It might catch the attention of the various creatures in this place, and that might make it impossible for her to remain hidden. And without being able to hide, she’d get hunted down by a massive sea of creatures of all sorts. Creatures that had caused the end of the Valyrian Freehold.

So they had to be powerful in some form. And she wasn’t sure if she could survive an infection if it was the one like she had seen in all those deceased zombie like people.

With that in mind, Haera let out a sigh of relief as the shaking stopped, as she leaned back against the wall of the basement, and decided to shut her eyes, and get some sleep.

That’s the end of the chapter!

A short chapter, but it’s basically just Haera thinking about the future and such. The next chapter will be longer.

Should I do a timeskip up until when Aerea appears?

Anyways, have a good day!
