I am not a fan of this episode tbh and I don't like how they're exploring the relationship between the brothers, like Damon is this deadweight that is holding Stefan back. I know a part of that is the torment of Hell that Stefan endured but it also feels like the show is endorsing it in a weird way as well.

Everything about this season is non linear and less obvious, it's the most adult season, everything is taken to a notch higher, writing a more complex narrative, more psycological intricasy, very high level of directing, acting, technology etc. they had money....It doesn't happen anymore.

2021-12-14 09:55:55 +0000 UTCSeason 7 seems like so much of a mess I just can't...Some story points are not bad and some moments are absolutely great, but it just all mushes together in a way that is so messy...And some aspects like the brothers etc being worked on is fantastic that's why it hurts so much, it's wrapped in such a mess of plot characters etc etc

You are right how satisfying it was, thanks to a great actor, Todd Lasance, that made us hate Julian with a vengeance. He had the right amount of crust and vile arrogance, coming from a place that is cowardly. Julian have always hidden behind his Heretic “family” that he spoil only for self serving purpose and his narcissistic personality; and when that one fell apart, he hid behind his mod of low life vampires. Stefan resolution is his straight. The difference between Damon and Stefan is mainly that Damon face danger fearlessly, full front, no matter what, probably because he is such a damaged person that to him his life count only as much as the purpose that serves, which is protecting the people he loves. Stefan prefers to be a negotiator, prefer diplomacy to sort out problems, but do not take Stefan to a place of no choice, of extreme rage and desperation because his determination makes him dangerous, makes him as a stone cold merciless assassin. How much we love scary Stefan! I love how Stefan played with Damon love for him, to save his life; he just had to say that that situation would put him in danger to make Damon change his mind on his suicidal plan. The scene when Damon tells Stefan what he thinks he did is devastating. Damon is convinced that he is damage goods behind repair and any hope of redemption; he thinks that he killed the only person that loved him, how shattering that must be. The power of destruction of the phoenix stone is massive; it is the worst enemy they faced so far. And we still don’t know when that power is reunited with its rightful owner what it can do.
