I get that you're a Stannis superfan but you sound simple. Of course killing them doesn't make a dent in his numbers. His numbers would've remained the same had he killed them, less than the Lannisters. If he could replace the men who flocked to Renly with loyal men then he would have. Duhh.

He didn't "allow" the nobles to keep their lives. He needed them to try and take kings landing. He wouldn't have had the numbers without them. Making Renly an heir when Renly had the numbers wasn't all that merciful either.

He is so funny in the books, without even trying.

Stannis is the best character. PERIOD. And there are so many things in the books that show his backstory and character that make him seem even cooler. And he would absolutely be the best king. All he does is his duty, and he gives people exactly what they deserve. They only people who would have a problem with that are people trying to escape justice.

Glad this lore vid give you more context and respect and sympathy for Stannis, I think its the biggest thing that doesn't come across in the show well, he's quite a fan favourite in the books despite being so stern and emotionless, he's so just and honourable, like a uber grumpy Ned in some respects (putting aside the red priestess influence) in terms of his honour and sense of duty, if not his empathy and mercy. Also really really funny and deadpan lol.

No I don't think Stannis would make a good king. In a world full of grey characters, he is too black and white. Everything is good or evil, bend the knee or perish with him. There has to be room for mercy from a ruler.
