I could understand people considering the CGI offputting since it is a stylistic break from the rest but I don't get how it's "so bad" personally. Animating a 3d model seems like a step up from just 2d rather than a step down, but maybe that's just because I watched quite a bit of 3d animation before ever getting into anime.
