With people with special knowldge dying the group to teach the next gen becomes smaller and smaller til no one is left. In a big war like this nearly all people gt drafted and then die. So much knowledge of antic rome and greece had to be rediscovered in the Renaissance is the perfect example how this situation unfolds in real life
