Update on Eight's Book 1

Hey all,

I’ve finished my pass on Eight’s first book and handed it off to an editor for a developmental read; meaning the editor will be looking at the overall story, pacing, and characters. They’ll also be checking for plot holes and anything else that might mar the overall narrative.

Paying for a developmental edit wasn’t something I was sure I wanted to do, but given the structural changes I’d made, I thought it wise, especially since this book will be my debut on Amazon. Fortunately, I’ve found a good agency, and I’ll also be engaging them for line and copy editing too.

If you don’t know, line editing focuses on paragraph structure, sentence flow, and word choices, while copy is what most people think editing is: looking for grammar, spelling, and punctuation mistakes.

So what’s next?

I wait for the notes from the developmental edit to come back. In the meantime, I’ll also start work on Eight’s book 2. I decided to keep the two separate after all.

While book 2 is about fifty percent longer than book 1, I don’t expect it will need the level of editing that book 1 did, so my estimation that I’ll be able to start on book 3 later in the fall should still be on track.

I’m looking forward to writing book 3. Working on the early parts of Eight’s story has really whetted my appetite for where it will go next.

In other news, I commissioned an artist whose work I admire to paint the book’s cover. He's the one who did the original covers on Royal Road.

I don’t want to spoil it, but here’s a teaser from the larger work.
