2022-07-13 00:40:46 +0000 UTCThat last episode Is so hard for me to watch because I know from seeing the series what was going to happen and it's so sad but I thought the same exact way as you did with that somthing was going to happen but not like that. That was just an uppercut to the face. And this is the turning point. This is where there is no going back. He has to fully commit to his role and he knows what needs to be done. But yea this is the part where it goes to like a 8 out of 10 to one of my long time favorites of deep anime

If you listen to Schneizel talking to that bald general closely, he does state that he's allowing Euphemia to do as she pleases (even going over Cornelia's authority as Viceroy, which led to that scene where the two were arguing about Euphemia's actions) provided that Japan's security can be assured (meaning no more Black Knights, no more hatred towards Brittanians, etc.), as his play in all this is basically to become emperor by flexing his authority. The fact that Euphemia relinquished her claim to the throne was just leverage for Schneizel while being able to "use" her to his advantage... remember, that's also one less sibling in line to take the throne. The fact that they showed how shocked he was at everything that transpired, with Euphemia massacring the Japanese people, shows us that wasn't really part of his plans. This, and a few more moments leading towards, and including season 2, is what makes this easily one my top 5 best animes of all time.
