I think it has something to do with the fact that they turn EVERYTHING in the scene into CGI and don't mix it in with the 2D animation. That is the main downfall of a lot of bad CGI (Arifureta comes to mind here). No matter how good or bad the CGI is in general, if it doesn't fit in with the rest of the 2D animation, its gonna look really bad. Since they chose to turn everything CGI in those scenes, the scenes themselves don't look as terrible. Most shows I've seen just look off with the one monster they are fighting being obviously CGI while the rest of the characters & scene are all 2D. The one show I can think of that used some CGI that looked good was Goblin Slayer. The CGI on his armor was really good and blended in with the scenes pretty well.

The whole transitioning between typical 2D animation to 2.5D CGI battle scenes does require some getting used to... but after rewatching episode 2 twice, I find the CGI isn't as bad as some I've seen in the past with other anime. Looking forward to following this series as well.

Fun fact: you can prolly guess this based on fantasy trope shit, but pretty much every Elf has Green Magic as a default thing, given their societies etc

He wants simpler things, but he does have his quirks. Glad to hear you'll react to Harem in the Labyrinth - that story really does do things differently. It says it's a harem, but the additions are few and far between and the MC actually shows he cares for his companions in more than just superficial ways. And he is OP, but that doesn't keep you alive in the world - he has a few close calls, and learns from them.
