Code Geass S2 Ep. 9-10 Reaction [FULL]

I wasn't a fan of the chess match but I get that it was done to show Lelouch doesn't take handouts.

I wonder if schneizel was trying to figure out if this Zero was in fact Lelouch or not. It's been mentioned before they played chess together when Lelouch was a kid and Lelouch could not beat him. It might have been a test. In Lelouch's mind he wanted to show Schneizel that he was better than him now, that he had grown to a level that Schneizel couldn't reach. But because he was given an easy win in the match it insulted Lelouch's pride, with hindsight it was dumb but he could not rationally think through and just take the win to further his plan because he had a personal history he wanted settled and it pissed him off that Schneizel was 'playing' with him and not taking it seriously.

Apparently Its all symbolism, Shneizel does it to see if Lelouch would take an easy victory. I've been thinking though, does that mean Schneizel is the type of person that would willingly sacrifice everything just to see how far someone is willing to go. If not, then how is Lelouch's reaction accurate to his personality either. Under the right circumstance (Nunally's life hanging in the balance) I'm sure Lelouch would more than willingly take an easy dub. Still cannot move within 1 space of an enemies king.

As as chess player Schneizel move triggers me every time xD The chess game was to demonstrate the thinking of each player revealing that Lellouch is extremly pridefull and would never accept a victory granted by others. Also the original goal was to geass everyone when Suzaku leaves the scene with his win

I think the chess game was basically just mind games to psyche each other out. The fact that Schneizel intentionally moved his king to that spot where Lelouche could have already won means he was only winning because Schneizel "allowed" him to win. Of course, knowing Lelouche, he wanted to win out of his own volition and not just be handed a win. That was the whole point of the game. Now, with regards to whether or not that move was even possible, I think for an informal game, yes. If this was tournament rules, then probably not. But for casual play, you can technically move however you choose (provided it is within your piece's limitations) and your opponent has no obligation to tell you that the move you just made would cost you your king... it's just a handed win at that point for being blind or careless.

I also found the chess match stupid when I watched it the first time. I still think it kind of is but after having rewatched this show 3 times I think Code Geass' chess do not follow our world's chess rules. Its rules are probably similar but different to make it work in the show. It doesn't help this isn't confirmed in the show as far as I remember and only implied by the weird moves no one calls out... Also Lelouch's stupid pride doesn't help the scene feel any better but that is kind of a lelouch thing to do. Still it kinda brings down the episode tremendously if you are even a little familiar with chess. I imagine people who don't know the game would not have any issues with it though
