Mobile Suit Gundam: Witch from Mercury Prologue Reaction [FULL]

My first ever Gundam anime...

Mobile Suit Gundam: Witch from Mercury Prologue Reaction [FULL]

Decent show for what it is but I wouldn't take it as a mainline Gundam show since the other shows are nothing like this. High School setting? meh.. IB Orphan is another deviation from the classic Gundam formula as well. Mobile Suit Gundam 00 is better for an introduction into Gundam, SEED too. My favorite is still Gundam Wing but thats just because it was my introduction into the franchise.

There are 11 Gundam timelines. Some series share the same time line, but a lot don't. Witch from Mercury is a new timeline called Ad Stella. Wing is After Colony, and Iron Blooded Orphans is Post Disaster. A lot of shows fall into Universal Century though. This may help: https://gundam.fandom.com/wiki/Gundam_Wiki:Timelines

The misconception about mech shows is that they can't be deep. Gundam has always had really good story and characters. Seed was good, but stay away from seed destiny. I thought Iron Blooded Orphans was excellent, but some didn't like the 2nd half. It was pretty dark. Wing of course was my first and my favorite. The thing I enjoy about Wing is that when I rewatch it as I get older I pick up on or understand things more.

IBO is never gonna be the best gundam choice though, the second season is horrible.

Think of Gundam as primarily a specialized mobile suit vs the standard mass-produced mobile suit for the grunt. As for the conflict, it is usually centered around the space colonizers vs Earth. There's the UC Timeline and any other would just be standalone. I think Sunrise is the primary studio to do mech because it's such a niche genre and not many studios are familiar with or comfortable animating mechs. The only other studio that I can think of that did mech was Studio Trigger with Gurren Lagann and A-1 Picture with Aldnoah Zero. Am not familiar with the UC timeline but that space suit looks really weird. Has to be a specialized thing that links up with the mobile suit as can be seen by the tube connected to the child's back. Similar thing to IBO as they are receiving some kind of feedback when in use. Any idea on what series you plan on purchasing your gunpla? I highly suggest the SEED series as I'm a big fan of their mech designs. I have such a hard-on for the Freedom mobile suit, especially its upgraded version the Strike Freedom. Also, are you looking for a more complex model kit or a simple one? There's the high-grade line (simple) and the master grade (complex) and I highly suggest the master grade if you're looking for a more intense build session. Before any of you comment that you shouldn't start with an MG while yes it's quite expensive I had a more satisfactory experience working with them and regretted purchasing the first many HG kit. This recommendation is only based on if he wants a simple 5-20 minute experience vs 20-60 minutes (time varies depending on which model kit was chosen). sorry for the long comment you can probably tell I enjoy this lmao

Wow.. That was good. I'm looking forward to the main story. I actually got goosebumps at the exact same moment that you did! Damn that ending was sad enough as it was, and then he started singing happy birthday..

Thanks for the breakdown on the timelines πŸ™

Agreed. I’ve heard of a ton of Gundam things, but just never watched them. No clue why.

JoeFreshest

Sunrise is a good studio and I know they get that Gunpla money so I see why the animation is so good

JoeFreshest

Of course. What’s crazy is I’m doing more anime now than I ever have and Fall I’ll be doing less despite it being β€œthe GOAT anime season” to many.

JoeFreshest

Gundam could be class into 2 timeline group uc century ( the old serie ans recently oav) that all be in same timeline it serie from 79 to victory and new serie that are in alternative ttimeline like this serie that are a stantalone serie

I haven't seriously watched a Gundam series since Gundam Wing first aired (though I have seen a few episodes of Seed and Iron Blooded Orphans). Between the trailer and this prologue, I'm definitely watching WoM. Some great visuals, interesting OST, and potential for an incredible story.

Gundam is not always a space thing but there is more space Gundam than not. Mecha/Gundam Shows do have really good animation. Gunpla is Expensive.

Aco2Draco

maybe, don't ware yourself out to hard with all the shows though. hate to see the burnout. :P

I want to watch a lot of anime πŸ˜… ... Ill be done with Code Geass in mid-October so I'll start a new Mecha anime at that time. Maybe IBO will win the poll πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

JoeFreshest
