It was a dream but it was real, she even said "I forgot that had even happened", meaning it did happen... I don't think there's any real limit to the type of magic she can use like Elias previously said. We saw her use wind magic to deal with the corruption on the cat arc, and also create some shadow insects to deal with the Elisabeth chimera thing, although Elias stopped her there.

Also love all the little details, like at the end of episode 11, after Elias has talked with Chise through the water, he puts the fire out because he’s not cold any more. Also, I’m not sure but I think she used the Nevin branch for the staff, and the choice wood for the bird which attached separately. Might be wrong though.
