peak animation! Stark is HIM!

Frieren Ep. 6 Reaction [FULL]

Comments

Just now really getting to watch this but from what I have gathered is that Frieren is a bit of a free spirit, Stark is a fairly good fella, and Fern... she is just an absolute savage. She really didn't have to do our boy dirty like that

Yeah, I can understand. I've only heard 3 songs from Yoasobi, Idol and Yuusha included. It does feel weird that Yoasobi was chosen, and there are better choices. I find the song works, and many don't. I think the best part of the OP is that it shows people really connect with the anime and WANT to be immersed right from the opening. The Orsted music has a lot of harsh synths, is basically what I was getting at. I'm glad we could debate this, not just "scream" at each other.

Baneful Otter

I don't really remember the Orsted music which tbh means it did its job as a background OST to enhance the moment, I don't think you can judge OST with the same type of judgement as an OP and ED which are supposed to stand out more. My problem with the OP is not fast/slow whatever its that it feels like it wasn't a song chosen to fit the show, its like if Lord of The Rings got a pop song from whatever was the big mainstream singer at the time instead of going with its current score. I felt like the OP was meant to be a generic "hype" anime music (Which btw I do not believe an OP has to "hype" you for the show to be a good OP that's a horrible way to think, and its why Joe made that horrible take on the Undead Unlock OP for not going "hard" enough.) I feel is Yotsoba was not the hot item right now from her previous hit on Idol it would be a different artists and the song was made more to promote the artist rather than make a song for the show. It just feels soulless and phoned in. Course might be biased as I never really cared for Yotsoba as an artist and don't really like her songs. I don't really care about Idol, but I give it a pass because I felt it at least fit the show it was attached to. (I prefer the ED by Queen Bee though.) I just am quite annoyed why everyone is acting surprised that maybe people may not like this OP when to me its bloody obvious.

I'm completely fine with you not liking something. I have many things I don't like that others love. And again, just because it's a slower paced series doesn't mean the music can't be. I used the "series is sad" as an example because I've seen it before, and I'm sorry if you felt it was an attack against you; this was more of my feelings to the general consensus I've seen. I used Cyberpunk as an example because you said that, and I quote, "The OP feels very filtered, 'modern' and not at all atmospheric." I took that as 'modern' music can't be atmospheric, and if that wasn't your intent, then I apologize for misinterpreting. The outrage is a combine fake and real. I have seen some unhinged comments. I'm not advocating this 'toxic yes man positivity' you claim I am. Here's my position on the song: The first time I heard it, it was definitely weird. I didn't expect it, but the song is good. The lyrics are great, and the speed just comes from a double-time, which many, MANY slower songs use to build tension, just like "Yuusha" (Frieren OP). I find the song to do justice to the source material, and if others don't, that's fine. I just think that everyone, you and myself included, need to word things better. A lot of things I see are "FaSt SoNg In SlOw ShOw!? BaD!!" You don't have to answer, but I'd like to levy a question: does this show radiate a similar feeling that Mushoku Tensei did (if you've watched it)? And if so, is the Orsted music bad, then? It has that 'modern' feel to it. Does that make it not atmospheric? (If you feel this is a bad example, then please give another one, if you answer at all). TL;DR: If you don't like it, that's okay, but I do and I think it works for it's intended purpose, e.g., getting you hyped to watch the show.

You're the one that is putting words into my mouth saying the series is "sad" Somewhere between Melancholic and Nostalgic would be the more concise way I'd say it. When they have a slower paced Journey set in a Medieval Fantasy World with grainy style filter I don't expect a Popish Digisized Sound and that is reasonable. Are you really going to use Cyberpunk as an example since you know...its a Cyberpunk setting? It is a fake outrage because I've not seen a single person actually outraged just people giving a negative opinion and people like you strawmanning them. Its okay if people have a negative opinion on something rather than mindless accept and consume everything they are fed like an NPC. What's more toxic to me is this culture of yes man positivity you seem to be advocating. I'm not particularly mad at the OP, just kinda mildly disappointed and thinks it doesn't fit, I simply don't like having mine and others who DO feel more strongly about it then me dismissed for being a naysayer. Instead of "gotta be mad at something" should I just "gotta swat down everyone that isn't bending over backwards for newest latest thing?"

I don't see the problem with the OP. The lyrics capture the vibe of the manga perfectly, which the actual anime also captures. Some of my favorite music in fantasy/anime includes those "modern," or electronic sounds, e.g. Mushoku Tensei Orsted music. If you think the series is sad because of the first episodes, that's wrong. Frieren is a pretty upbeat series with fewer of those sad moments. Really, just the first 2/3 chapters are, then it just becomes a D&D party adventuring to reach a place, in this case 'Heaven.' If your next argument is "the song is too fast," why is it? Why does music have to be slow and not "modern" to be atmospheric? I don't understand your point. Cyberpunk has a very atmospheric soundtrack, and it's pretty "modern." Hell, an entirely orchestral track from Starfield is at 178bpm (one beat every 0.337 seconds, song is 'New Atlantis') and its pretty atmospheric. Why does the show being a "slow burn" mean every song needs to be slow as well? This just feels like a fake outrage because you've "gotta be mad at something if everything else is perfect."

Baneful Otter

I like that ending scene showing the old hero party and the new one. Fern standing in Heiter’s spot, Stark standing in Eisen’s spot, and Frieren standing in Himmel’s.

Nancchi

I think the reason people have a problem with the OP is that it is more upbeat than they think it should be because they are basing it off of the first few episodes and their sadder premise. This show does has some sad elements to it but its also about self growth and finding one's self. The OP is fire and the lyrics fit perfectly and is for getting people ready for their adventure.

inuani10

That's a point against the OPs defense not for.

dpolaristar

ED makes up for it

Ixy

Pluto might be an AOTS contender

dpolaristar

The OP feels very filtered, "modern" and not at all atmospheric.

dpolaristar

Maybe, I also feel that the op fits the series but I understand that people felt like that with the 4 ep release. For me, regarding the series as a whole (I'm a huge fan of the manga), the music, visuals and lyrics of both op and ed fits perfectly with the series and give us 2 different vibes that compliment each other.

Ecodude

I personally feel like it was because of the song being filter-heavy, in addition to the insertion of the fast tempo of the song as an OP being set in between the back-to-back slower narratives from the simultaneous release of first four episodes or the emotional narrative in general, to make this OP feeling "out of the place", and not because of the quality of the song itself.

Ohh Fern went there with Stark's pp, lmao. Also, regarding Fern and Stark, yeah, Fern is mad regarding Frieren and her not having problem with taking her time, however, I think Fern is still also a bit mad at Stark cause of the last episode, being an 'inexperienced coward', and a 'pretend hero' of the village. Frieren was probably upset regarding leaving the last town, cause she wanted to stay there a bit, and study a bit of magic, but they left what looks like the same day. The Guard went to talk to the Castellan, and then those two found the party later that day by the looks. Frieren wants a little time to study, but now the town knows there's a Demon King slayer who wants to get through the gate, so of course they'll open it for her, and she can't really say no, can she?

Sgtanders

Also, Madhouse do be flexing with the animation in this episode... dayuuum

statixFEAR

I do agree that the OP really fits the show. Maybe some people don't vibe with it as much because of the high bar YOASOBI set with their last song for Oshi No Ko.

statixFEAR

Stark received severe emotional damage from Fern about his "small" thingy lmao, shes too savage
