Knowing the time period is actually very important in this .... time setting for this anime is during the ming dynasty (1368-1644 AD) ... also Maomao and her dad's backstory is probably gonna be the most interesting backstory in the entire series

2023-11-21 08:37:46 +0000 UTCI think its more the other two hairpins she got were from the other high ranking concubines and they can't leave the palace and she thinks Jinshi is a enunch and thus her ploy to bride with the top three highest rated hoes wouldn't work. (Although the general she is bribing doesn't know who she got the hairpins from just that they are high rank so for all he knows she does have two other guys lined up that might take the deal.) Yeah it does mean a proposal for marriage or at least romantic intent for courtship, that's why that guy she bribed was upset and offended she just wanted to use him to go on an outting, and why he found her either dauntless for the audacity to do that, or clueless in having no idea what she just did. I think Mao Mao would like Jinshi more if she saw his more sincere serious side where he is getting things done as opposed to his trollish flirtatious pretty boy persona. Last episode when he kinda got onto her for walking off after eating the poison she did say he was different and seemed to see him in a new light. I don't know if Mao Mao is royalty, but I do think either her or her family might have had some connection to the palace.

2023-11-19 00:14:08 +0000 UTCI'm sure there are plenty of slow-acting poisons that are natural you can just YOINK from forests or w/e have you (in fact lead is a natural poison, so you could potentially use that, also quicksilver too I'm sure is a slow acting poison as well, depending on dosage of course. Easy to smuggle in as shit like painting supplies (quicksilver can be used to get some nice tones for certain high-tier pro paints for very specific gradients etc. Hell I'm sure there must be some quicksilver at the medical cabinet place as well, given its common-ish enough usage in traditonal Chinese medicine etc), and should be easy enough to hide in denser liquid foods if you just use it a relatively miniscule amount to ensure the poisoning complications don't become apparent fast enough until organ damage has been done to heavy level

Since his title was brought up recently and other characters seemed to genuinely just getting aware of Maomao for the first time. (It would be a bit unpleasant if Maomao was related to the emperor's bloodlines, and if Jinshi had shared the same bloodlines too.) Lihaku (the military officer) might get to see Pairin (one of the brothel's top princesses) only for him to work on the mill for grinding the tea leaves into smaller pieces since Pairin was working on the tea making at the time, so something like this would be an alternative type of "draining" even if Lihaku wasn't getting the actual "service" from the brothel as he was just referred by Maomao and he wasn't paying for Pairin's value, however it was already a huge deal just getting to see one of the top princesses so he probably wouldn't just leave as well.

They can't do shit vs a slow-acting poison, and there's no reason why any VIP assassinations that target 1 specific person would use anything but a slow-acting poison. It'd be one thing if they wanted to clap fucktillions of VIPs at once by poisoning the entire generic food supply stock, but most of the poison shits are politics based so there'd be no point in doing a mass-poisoning where the amount of targets or the nature of targets is irrelevant, because in the case of the latter type it'd be done by some terrorist or w/e whose entire goal is to just clap as many people as possible, not open up a new position for promotion or getting rid of a rival or w/e, or any other political gambit of similar types. I mean consider his profession. The quack who is that fatty dude who clearly barely knows anything about medical practices looks to be in his 40s to 50s, and based on grey hair the femboi voice dude must be in like 60s to 70s in age to have hair like that, especially w/ that cane
