In Greek mythology, the god of wind Aeolus had a daughter named Alcyone, who was married to Ceyx, the son of the goddess of dawn Phosphorus. One day, Ceyx drowned while sailing at sea, and Alcyone is heartbroken and jumped off a cliff to her death. Moved by her infatuation, the gods turned Alcyone and Ceyx into halcyons (kingfisher blue birds).
