I'd say the game she was playing is more along the lines of modern Persona which is a JRPG with dating sim elements rather than a full on dating sim Otome game. She even says she had no interest in the dating sim part or conquerable characters.

You can appreciate the works of other cultures but if you start getting too into it and idealize japan, then you're a weeb. I think it's important for people to realize that Japanese culture is really fucked up compared to most other western countries.
