At first, he was someone who caught her interest, procured materials and took care of her, now he doubles as a unique research subject, and eventually other things around him will be even more interesting. Rentt is a mithril mine for a dedicated researcher like Lorraine. The anime barely covers it, but after becoming the youngest Sage ever, Lorraine hit a mental block. She came to Maalt to try to find something new. And Rentt showed her that there was still something worth doing. Her interest in him got her to start researching again, and she also watched how he altered things around him without realizing it.

2024-02-12 23:48:17 +0000 UTCYeah she could literally just fuck off at any moment back to the empire (after all I assume she DOES technically have her doctorship position since she's officially on a "field research" type of thing, hence why she mentioned having to keep writing those letters to the old farts etc, because she's technically on a field research trip to study Existential Evolution (or so the excuse for higher ups in the empire go at any rate, otherwise there's no way they'd simply let someone of her abilities just go like that)), so it wouldn't matter even if Rent was busted & she was somehow accused of being a collaborator, because she can just fuck off back to the empire, and good luck to Yaaran (a pissant-tier country, basically a backwater kingdom by global metrics scale etc wise, let alone a frontier shithole region like Maalt) in trying to get someone of her rank extradited (I don't think extradition treaties are even a thing in this setting/time period anyway)

Maybe if your going to threaten someone maybe don't do it when there's a dude like a whole foot taller than you who, OBVIOUSLY knows what he is doing, and also just happens to have a sword in his hand too. In some other anime I have watched that bozo would've had a new hole in his neck.

2024-02-10 15:15:59 +0000 UTCBoth Rentt and Vivie undersell themselves - Vivie isn't really a broken researcher who can't make it in the Capital-she moved to Maalt because she didn't have a purpose, and she found purpose in Maalt. Rentt was a major part of making sure the adventurers in Maalt were better people. He might have been only Bronze in capabilities, but pretty much everyone knew him. Remember in the flashback just before he got eaten how everyone was greeting him. And there is a lot more hidden about Rentt's past. In the light novels, there have been a lot of "wait, what?" moments. Don't expect quick power growth, but things like Rentt's poison immunity are significant later.
