And in the final episode, they both tie the knot, now that they both understand what it means. Chise goes from titular bride early on to a real bride at the end. And both have redeemed each other in different ways. They need each other, yet are still afraid. Cartaphilus finally gets to rest. A simple desire, but one that he didn't understand until now. Ashen Eye is not something that can be defeated once and for all in battle, but that needs to be foiled in other ways.
