I know this won't be read this late. But the whole ignoring your friends and taking on all the problems yourself is usually a villain backstory.

To fit everything into 20 minutes, the anime basically distilled each conversation into a couple of cliff notes and even then they missed so much. For example, they completely cut out any discussion of politics, removed a long conversation between Euphy and the blacksmith and rewrote Lumi's lines in such a weird way. She wants to prevent Euphy from becoming a spirit contractor, so why did she start by talking about how becoming one could solve all of Euphy's problems?
