2023-05-28 09:26:57 +0000 UTCAs frustrating as it is for us viewers to watch how off the mark and oblivious Ichikawa is, especially with the oblivious anime MC trope, I think I can understand a lot of his thought process and misunderstandings. At the age they're both at, there are still a lot of nuances to relationships that they don't quite grasp yet... even Yamada, who's known to wear her heart on her sleeve, is careful of being too direct with Ichikawa as she's afraid it might push him away from her. And Ichikawa's misinterpretation and misunderstanding of Yamada's advances or situations is hilarious, but totally believable. I also love the character development of our boy. Ichikawa is starting to slowly realize that it isn't a bad thing to want something... he just needs to be honest with himself first.
