ZOM 100 Ep. 1 Reaction [FULL]

I worked at a black company before, I quit after one month.

Japanese work culture is pretty thoroughly fucked, and so much of it also works entirely off of seniority, rather than actual qualification. In many cases, quitting means either being seen as unreliable, and/or completely losing all "progress" towards said seniority. Being competent is secondary to just being an older employee, and those with seniority basically run the show with zero oversight, so harassment and the like run rampant, as do unethical standards. It's a core problem not just with Japanese work culture, but also their society at-large: boomers run the show to such an extent that human rights are pretty much an afterthought, and everyone accepts that as "normal" far too easily, because trying to reject such abuse basically just means being seen as "difficult," and then ending up in exactly the same situation at some other job-- except starting over at the bottom of the ladder, because now you're new, rather than having any accumulated seniority. Suicide rates for men are approximate twice that in the U.S., with suicide rates for women being three times the U.S., when adjusting for population. Unpaid overtime is mandatory, taking sick days or vacation or the like is seen as betrayal (and can get you fired), and for women it's... about a half century behind, in terms of harassment and extremes of inequality. But there's also a lot of other horrible shit going on with that particular case... Regardless, the tl;dr is that Japan is an overall pretty horrible place to work, and pretty intolerable to live in for anyone who doesn't fit their extremely strict, omniphobic view of "normal"-- and all the moreso for anyone who has corporate work. There are positives to being in Japan, like the food, the fact that murder is thirteen times less common, the functional public transport, et cetera. However... domestic violence and familial abuse are extremely common and normalized, as are workplace abuse and harassment, as is just a lot of other messed up garbage in general. Great place to visit, or to elsewise be as an "outsider," who works online or the like. But... pretty terrible place to live for the average Japanese person. Exceptions exist, of course, but... yeah. Not that the U.S. is really much better, in current year, mind. But anyway: main point is just that it is, in fact, genuinely that bad. They have a WORD for dying from overwork: karoshi. Which refers to death by heart attack or stroke due to continuous stress and starvation, among other factors. And that's *separate* from the suicide rates mentioned prior. But, well, it's not boomers who're dying, so they'll stick to "tradition", for the sake of "unity." Bleh... Main distinction is the the U.S. values individuality and determinism far more, whereas in Japan, it's largely just "shut up and listen to someone older," which is what leads to incredibly levels of stagnation and backwards practices. But I've ranted long enough about a topic I myself barely have any real depth of knowledge on-- and my own perspective is certainly skewed by the horror stories I've heard from a few friends and acquaintances who had to deal with some of the worst from said work-culture, themselves, so take my word with a grain of salt, in any case. Worth looking into, though. Either way, our MC's response to this stuff is "normal," in that context. --- Anyways! Looks like a really cool show, and likewise a huge fan of zombie stuff-- namely games, actually. Dead Rising was peeeeeeeeeeeak. First game I ever 100%'d achievements on, as it was just so damned entertaining. Would also spend hours just barricading up random places in the mall, or messing around and exploring, or whatever. And was also a huge Left 4 Dead fiend, back when that first released-- actually clearing levels on Expert was such an insane feeling of accomplishment, even if it took a hundred tries, and versus was honestly loads of fun, too. ...way off topic again, lol. SHOW LOOK GOOD! Actually pretty rare to see anime tackle zombies much, and the MC's world-weariness shattering into unhinged optimism feel REALLY promising. Excited to see where they go with it! ^^

He didn't quit his job because we needed an anime backstory

Taylor Moon

I am going in this completely blind but the elements have been peppered in that explain a bit why he didn't quit. He saw the job as a very prestigious position that would follow his dream. He then got hooked with a love interest. Then when he was forced to do the job for someone who dropped out made him realise he would force his workloud on others. All these elements kinda cornered him in and didn't seem to find a way out of it. That's how I saw those parts and it was very warming to see he got to get closure for those shakles that kept him tied. Great first episode

I've ready like 2 volumes of this and it was sooo enjoyable, I have all the volumes that are out in ENG so if it ends on a cliffhanger I'll just switch to manga lol

This episode was so all over the place that it's intrigued me to this series even more. That first half got so real and depressing so quick. Sure my job isn't as bad, in comparison, as some black companies in Japan, but we have some of those days where I question myself if it's still all worth it. Also, I love the art style in this show... it kinda looks like a blend of Japanese "anime" aesthetics with some more Western looking cartoon/art style.

Only thing that kept this episode from being great for me is they cast one of my goats Sora Amamiya in a one off role to get plowed by a UB. I’m pissed
