2024-03-10 03:44:14 +0000 UTClate, and I didn't read the entire wall, but wanted to correct one thing. The reason she can't de-materialize has nothing to do with Shirou. It is because unlike other servants who are dead heroic spirits summoned from the pool of heroes, saber is actually still technically alive (although barely) and is summoned from the point near the end of her life where she made a deal with the holy grail. It is the reason why she has her memories of her previous grail war as well as why she is summoned again this war despite being in the last war (because her deal with the holy grail means she will be summoned into every war until she obtains the holy grail at which point she would then finally die and enter the pool of heroes which was her end of the bargain). This is why she doesn't de-materialize in fate/zero either. This was explicitly covered in Fate route which never got a proper adaptation, so it's understandable that people misunderstand, but wanted to clarify as the reason is clearly stated in the source. A big part of the reason why Kuzuki was able to best Saber here is due to the element of surprise. Nobody expected him to fight, and also he is being heavily buffed by Caster, who is a top tier mage, adding more to the surprise of him being much stronger than Saber expected a human to be. We see later on that without Caster's presence, Kuzuki could not last even a second against Archer. It's also there as it fits thematically with the overall theme of UBW and there being exceptions to the mage vs servant rule as we'll see later on.

Artoria is pretty much shit-tier in this Holy Grail War BECAUSE Shiro is her Master, as he's a shit-tier mage w/ barely enough mana to maintain her corporeal form (the Grail only performs automated Summon rituals, the Masters are responsible for anchoring the Heroic Spirit physically to the world by supplying the Mana). The Master's mana capacity limits what Noble Phantasms a Servant can use (assuming multple ones that is, some Servants are poopooass & only have 1 NP), because their grading determines how much fuel they need for active usage (so most modern magi would be pepsi if a Servant tried to use their EX-grade NP for example, because that's rly not something a normal modern mage would use; someone like Caster COULD do so, because of being from the Age of Gods (i.e the time when True Magic existed in the world, not just Magecraft, because the passive ambient mana amounts of the planet are reliant on gods existing in the same phase of Reality, so when they fucked off after said Age of Gods, magic got nerfed to shit essentially, and even top-tier modern mages would be doodoo compared to even your mediocre mage from back then). She's pretty doodoo too relatively speaking, as someone like Merlin would be pretty much superior to her as a mage as well, among some other heavy hitter mages from Age of Gods). Shiro has shitty amount of mana, which is why Artoria can't use her NP at all rly, as well as why she can't even Dematerialize either from her anchored state
