i don't quite get what you mean by their detective manga not being an interesting enough concept to last more than 50 chapters. Detective conan's basic concept (teen detective turned into a child) isn't any more interesting either and it's the 3rd most sold manga in absolute numbers and has the 11th highest average sales per volume.

You have been watching the pain that Takagi has been going through as a writer this whole time man. And as a writer myself, there is a lot more that goes into it than that. The pressure alone to make something that doesn't suck can be overwhelming. You're not just making something to satisfy your own ego. Because if you are, that's just plain fan fiction.
