2023-09-05 00:31:01 +0000 UTCRegarding to the product placements in anime, one thing is that most of the anime are adaptations. Some of the audiences might call out the placements for their inaccuracies in comparison to the original pieces negatively. Although some of the original pieces have already included some vague or direct references towards certain renowned products under their specific context, the anime adaptations would still have to acquire permissions to refer the same product since they are broadcasting on TV as well (however lots of oversea brands have often been included in anime without permissions and without further repercussions). Some subtle changes could certainly not make the product placements to appear out of the place, but I think this is situational, such as displaying different brands of spice in a food anime or different car brands in a racing anime. Also I think that ads are schedule sensitive. A less-known company probably can't afford to wait for just any anime production company to eventually finish up the production (especially with recent delays), or force their ads into a mid-production anime with an unannounced plan most of the time. A well-known company would want to take part in a popular series, but then it is uncertain when they get to take part in one because the current market for anime productions is bloated and come with various conditions, and therefore the marketing opportunity in anime becomes uncertain. Those big production companies, who are backed by their resourcefulness and efficientcy, will likely deliver the placement contract into the anime on schedule; but there aren't that many anime production companies running stably for too long as far as I know.
