He's not "killing himself" for the company greed, though. It's for his craft, and dreams and pride as well. Being a manga artist, or any artist in general is not the same as your typical McJob. Tbh, I sympathized with Mashiro when I read this part of the manga a decade ago but now I get the Chief's perspective more as an adult. He handled the situation well. Teenagers are prone to not thinking straight and end up harming themselves this way. It's ultimately Mashiro's fault for not taking care of his own health in the first place so he had to learn from this bad experience.
