Was FreshestAnime thinking of Bunny Girl Senpai as another anime that's very similar to this? Bunny Girl Senpai is extremely similar structure and even plot wise to the Monogatari series, except made for a wider audience (aka it has alot less weird stuff).

2023-09-17 23:18:11 +0000 UTCimma be real here: when I first watched this series, i was ALSO very confused. it takes a while to get used to but once you get get accustomed to it, it gets better to understand. It's definitely easier to understand on a second or third watch. you are correct in a sense that this series uses a lot of japanese wordplay which is hard to translate into english. lots of kanji interpretations that get lost by foreign viewpoints (at first). so, hang in there, this anime gets better with action sequences and cliffhangers that have lots of payoff in future arcs. also, gl with the anime ecchi stuff. this anime is loaded with it LOL. To compare: while Mushoku Tensei has commentary about the consequences of being a ecchi delinquent and to better yourself, Monogatari sometimes EMBRACES it and pushes it further without holding back. (i only used MT as an example since it's currently airing and i also love both anime)

While this anime series is beautiful, this arc remains stuck in the same setting for three episodes and struggles in comparison to the rest of the series. I'm aware that my taste in anime is a bit unusual, but that's what makes me, me. :p

As far as I'm aware, Mayoi Snail is actually generally considered to be one of the strongest arcs of bake, I have rarely seen anyone say it's weak, bad or significantly worse than other parts so it's interesting to me that I'd find someone here of all places

2023-09-17 15:47:39 +0000 UTCit is basically all monogatari - which means smth like (ghost)story iirc bakemonogatari nekomonogatri and so on are kind of the seasons of the show/bigger story-arcs you can watch them by release order (wikipedia had a good overview that helped me back in the day iirc) or - since their content is timeline wise all over the place you can try to find a watch order that keeps the inworld-timeline in check if you want to go through the whole monogatari experience

In my opinion it really isn't all that hard to keep up with the dialogue and I find it extremely witty and charming but I guess everyone's got their own experiences
