The Headmistress was quite clear on this during the group meeting after Darius pepsi'd, that IF he was indeed clapped by a student & not anyone from the in-group, it just proved that he wasn't fit to be a teacher in the first place if he was that fucking trash-tier at combat. For some reason the anime adaptation keeps omitting all the Gnostic Hunter dialogue bits from all 3 volumes so far, which is a weird thing to pull considering how long-term lore relevant Gnostic Hunters as a faction are macroscale wise... so basically think of Gnostic Hunters as the Navy SEALs of the Mages, or literally any black ops/shocktroop mfs in general, 1% of the 1% essentially, as far as non-theoretical fields go. Essentially like 99% of Kimberly staff are ex-Gnostic Hunters before semi-retiring from fr fr active duty (still technically in the reserves if situation rises, but not going around the world 24/7 actively like active active ones rn do) There's a reason Kimberly's OFFICIAL motto/agenda is "your life and your death are in your own hands", obviously, as the headmistress quite clearly stated in Episode 1, and everyone who enrolls at the academy know this beforehand, as their previous generations have for centuries by now...
