It's the difference between wearing a hat from your favorite sports team to their match, versus painting your torso, face and hair in the team colors and going to the match shirtless. For another example, Marin from My Dress Up Darling is technically a gyaru, though to be specific she's a "neo gal". Would be weird to lump the style shown here and that of Marin together as one and the same.

2024-10-03 21:28:00 +0000 UTCI had the pleasure of seeing episode 1 early at Anime NYC, it was really fun and the Japanese voice actor for the mc Natsuki Hanae was there. It was really cool getting to see him in person since he also voices tanjiro and a lot of other main characters. Also I don't think they mention it that well but apparently the person she keeps talking about is a famous actor "tough guy" that she likes.
