It's got flashbacks, a huge time lapse, feels, laughs, subtle social commentary, cock worship... all the stuff you come here for.
I do think it deserves an epilogue, but for now, I think I've hit my climax and given Devon a little bit of closure. Or she dies in the end or whatever; pretend I preserved suspense correctly if you're reading this before the chapter. You know, just go read the chapter. This is nothing.

2025-01-21 22:27:37 +0000 UTCHard to know where to begin with this one, but the thing I'm most struck with is how deeply moving it ended up being -- how this raunchy satire eventually leaned fully into Harmony Reed's aching melancholy, a woman trying to assuage both her servility and sanity all at once. There's so much of Devon that's ridiculous, you know? Her virus-like tendency to invade an organism, corrupt it, and then destroy it is the absolutely perfect background noise to her constant self-deprecation and belligerent self-regard. (She is A LOT, at all times.) But all of that just ends up speaking to her need for meaning, for purpose, and how things like religion end up providing that in sometimes unexpected ways. This whole dumb weird story of a recycled sex slave never loses its humanity in its misanthropy, and it always finds fun angles with which to embrace its spirituality in the face of blisteringly funny hypocrisy and some light felony arson. I loved this whole story, never more so than when I could open a new chapter with absolutely zero idea on where it might possibly go next. God bless this sweetly sad story of a girl trying to find a home in the most horrifyingly funny way possible.
