Here I was hoping to finish Toy's Toy in one final post, but I've been trying to keep the chapters more manageably sized than my usual, and this one hit the right length. We have 1 (ish) more chapter to go as Devon seeks for her forever home, but for now, here's this. I hope it makes ya smile. More to come.

I loved this one. It's Devon showing up on an episode of The Righteous Gemstones, and it's as incisive and funny as it is mildly depressing and eventually tragic. Just seeing how Devon's devotion overlaps so easily with the Megachurch experience -- and American Christianity as a subsection of religion more broadly -- is hilarious even before the random asides that remind us that this is still a story about gleeful mental enslavement. There's so little daylight between Devon's backstory and her present, and that's such a great development for this heartfelt story of longing and/or blood fountains. Always a delight to get another installment of one of the stranger serials in the Ice Bear library ("Harmony Reed, but a comedy"), and never more so than when we can read about Devon becoming the Ultimate Parishioner, for better or worse. Nicely done!
