I find it interesting that, in Episode 9, Kyon starts to question his role in all of this. It's a normal thing to do when you find yourself in such a situation where everyone else has something special and was brought here because of that. Since he's just a normal human, at least to his knowledge, why Haruhi would even choose him when she doesn't like normal people is a mystery, though it could be subconsciously caused by the fact that they met in the past. But in that case, the entire time travel plot point would be a paradox, since if she chose him because she saw him in the past but he only travelled back in time because she chose him, which one of these caused the other in the first place? The only sensible answer would then be that Kyon also has something special that he's not aware of, and that would cause him to be quite confused about himself. Now that I think about it, Kyon seems to be the only one able to go against Haruhi's will in some way. So he might be right about being chosen as the "good conscience" of the club. And with Episode 10, one of my favourite plotlines begins. This is why I knew you should keep watching even if the anime is really dialogue-heavy and not really made for reactions/commentary, because this arc is quite interesting.
