You're absolutely right. It's very tough getting to the top. You have to be ruthless, always competing against others, and willing to sacrifice your entire life just to get there. You basically have to be insane to even want that. And I definitely ain't cut out for that. Or you can inherit your family's company, which is only worse when you're the worst candidate for the job.

I keep telling people who dream of moving to Japan or Korea that there's a difference between going there on vacation for a month and actually living there. You will soon find out that the things you believe may not hold up against what they believe. Things you find unfair, might not seem unfair to them. What you see as discrimination, might not be the same to them. Or maybe they don't have a problem with discriminating against others. You just gotta live with that. And if you can't, then it's best you just stick to visits from time to time. You have to understand they don't need you to stay there. In fact, they'd rather you don't stay there at all. They just allow you to stay there, and expect you to follow their rules. I've seen plenty of people disillusioned after a few years of living in Japan, because they thought things would be better for them.

The judge ruled according to the definition of employment gender discrimination in Korean law. The company's policy was worded in a way that did not break that law. Sucks but ya

South Korea is a Patriarchy. Things change, and they are getting better, but yeah... We were the same way in the US for a long time, but things have improved, though we still get paid less and hold only about 1/4 of all top management and leadership roles in the country. I'm thankful to have the opportunities I do as a woman because there are still many places in the world where I would have fewer rights, if any, just because of my gender. Some areas in the Middle East no longer allow women to speak in public, not like making speeches, but just talking to each other. They've even outlawed windows so women can't be seen. It's crazy...
