You also might have missed that Mayuko is the kid's homeroom teacher. She's the one who told Tohru when her mom was in an accident and threatened Kyo to dye his hair.

I'm guessing since the characters around him don't understand him then we aren't supposed to either. I can't remember if the scene after the credits was in the manga or if it is an anime original scene. Here is a rough translation of what Momiji said. What do you mean? Had an argument? We're going to get hamburgers now. Do you want to come with us? They're really tasty. Come on!
