To me it feels very much like Sukitte Ii Na Yo (Say I Love You) so far, but with less interesting characters. I wouldn't call the show bad but it lacks a little something to make me invested in it.

2025-01-27 17:38:51 +0000 UTCPerhaps you can say that this is somewhat the worst angsty version of Kimi ni Todoke, but that would do Kimi ni Todoke such a disservice. That show felt so fresh amongst the shoujo clones at that time, while HLS just feels like every other shoujo from that dark period. She's your typical socially awkward girl with sad doey eyes who can't believe anyone would be friends with her, because she's been bullied in the past, and cannot fathom anyone as cool and popular as Kai could ever fall in love with her. And now she gets bullied by jealous rivals, because she's getting too much attention from the cool guy. You know what would set this apart from all those shoujos? Her suddenly beating the crap out of every jealous girl from now on, completely out of nowhere.
