Twinkling Watermelon Ep. 1 Reaction [FULL]

When you said there were some time traveling elements in it, I was not expecting one of the brothers wanting to become a guitarist. Which is funny, because last night I was playing the guitar in my dreams. So let's see where this goes.

Brickland

As someone with a hearing disability, while it's understandable that some people don't know what to do so may think speaking louder helps somehow... honestly, it's not funny to me, no. Speaking louder doesn't help me understand but (in my case) it can hurt my ears. It confuses me that people first think of speaking louder, and rarely ever to write things down instead. But it happens all the time, and feels awful. If someone wants to make fun of deafness, speaking louder is also used as a form of mockery so it leaves a bitter taste regardless. You're correct; this drama does have time travel. I went into it blind and got invested in the current story etc, then the time travel caught me off-guard and I don't know... I just couldn't watch more. I almost felt tricked or something. But I also realise that I can provide unique insight as someone with a hearing disability, so I might continue it alongside you. Either way, I still looked forward to your reactions and thoughts on this episode. It's worth mentioning that deaf people can enjoy music; even those who can't hear anything at all, they listen through their hands by feeling the vibrations. They can play instruments using that as well (some music prodigies are deaf or hard of hearing), despite what the characters said. It makes sense here to have the Hearing son discover a passion for music, I'm just saying that it's also possible for a Deaf character to do the same. Describing sounds through textures surprised me, as I haven't seen that in many (if any) deaf portrayals before. So far, it seems those who made this drama at least know what they're talking about, but I did expect Korean content for this topic to be better anyway. Btw the way the parents were waving both hands while making the snowman (and in other moments) is how Deaf people clap. I don't know if it's universal everywhere, but it is a common way to cheer / clap that visually equates the sound of doing so. lol I fully expected Dad to die when I first saw the snow scene too, and then the fire, as kdramas like to get us. But damn, the child actor's anguish when he heard his dad went in to save him... wow, the acting. I did laugh at your roller-coaster of emotions as the drama kept confirming the parents live, haha sorry :P The fact that awful mother had the audacity to be mad at them though, after she knew her son had something to be guilty about. But that's one of the reasons why I enjoy your reactions, because you still understand her perspective even if it's a messed up one. I was mad at her, but also while her son was to blame... it was not intentional. I get it. I felt so bad for the Hearing kid (I can't remember his name) because they put so much on him as the go-between of Deaf and Hearing people. That was really unfair, and he had far too much responsibility on his young shoulders. It's so easy to forget that he's the younger brother, with how he has to manage everything and even look after his brother. It hit a nerve too; something I hate is if I have a Hearing person with me then other Hearing people bypass me to talk to them, even if it's about me. I've had doctors do this too, even as an adult. They'd just say everything to whoever is with me (not even asking first) instead of even trying to inform me or asking what I wanted / if I have questions etc. I've legit asked a question, and they look straight to the Hearing person to answer it. Always assuming that if I have a hearing disability, then I can't communicate or understand. I like that the drama touched more on the communication and spatial awareness difficulties, but they did it in a subtle and natural way most of the time. It's a bit toned down, but very realistic in how the Hearing kid had to always be the go-between and yet people accuse him of not saying it word-for-word or being dishonest, or overall expecting him to basically be the actual voice for his parents. I do like how colourful and visual their home was. I know they have kids, and the mother is artistic, so it makes sense regardless, but is still nice to see because we get more sensory details from visuals than sounds. The world is already quiet, so it can feel isolating if our home is visually "muted" as well. I'm still not sure how I feel about the drama overall or if I want to finish it, but regardless... I enjoyed your reactions and I hope you enjoy watching it. (Sorry this was so long; I had a lot of thoughts lol)

Lena

@40:08 that’s actually a symphony by Johann Pachelbel from 1680 and is called “Canon in D” . Maroon 5 actually sample it for that song you mentioned and in my opinion butchered it. I preferred the electric guitar version at least u can still appreciate the original. Happy u started this drama i have been waiting because is so freaking good 🙏🙏🙏

LightMyPath Star

yeah, this is definitely one of my faves! I will always recommend it! Plus, the music always takes me back to every moment and emotion. So excited for these reactions.
