Maomao doesn’t want to speculate about Jinshi’s background because she doesn’t want them to become closer emotionally.

Radiofree Prometheus

The Emporer is his actual father but they can never let the secret that the babies were snapped, so Jinshi will live his life as his real fathers brother. If we are to believe what Maomao speculated about the swap. Considering Ah-Duo looks like Jinshi's twin sister at this point he has to be the real father and Ah-Duo is his mom.

probably not, BUT i like where you're going with this

I wonder if Lakan's inability to distinguish people could 🤔 be anything related to the Royal Mother blood concept? Even though it's not color blindness but face blindness instead. Just a random thought.

Jinshi reports to the emperor and does other work and not just manage the rear palace. Just because it wasn't stated, doesn't mean it wasn't implied. If anything, given his official title - managing the rear palace isn't his official responsibility. I don't know about "head of his information network" but since Jinshi's work always involves Maomao somehow, the Emperor knows about her and her background to the point even he makes orders/requests to her directly himself. But to your point, Maomao being Lakan's daughter was never exactly a secret. Maomao just avoids being associated with him for her own reasons. It was just revealed to us late in S1 but I agree that it should already be common knowledge by now at least around the relevant circles.

You are right about Jinshi and the, implication, that the current emperor being his dad. -Concubine and previous emperors wife delivered kid -Implication that concubine swapped kids with previous emperors wife (cause it was safer) -concubine said that her child "left her side" as she lost supposedly swapped child instead of saying it died (supporting the implication) -the show told us that the concubine and jinshi looked very similar -maomaos implied that her stepdad got banished (and got a kneecap removed) because of some bigger mistake than just the child dying (they probably found out about the switch and punished the stepdad (maybe he knew but did not tell or even helped facilitate the switch (i dunno)) p.S: i could be wrong but the beginning scene could be quite horrifying. That was the previous emperor that had "questionable taste" (to say it mildly) and he saw a "beautiful" child (i assume that jinshi was always seen as above average beauty) and was reaching out for it. I could be wrong but that would explain the face the "mom" made.

Maomao would have known if Luomen was colorblind instead just having knowledge of it due to studying medicine in the West where colorblindness is much more common. That said, Maomao being Lakan's daughter, and knowing from the end of S1 that Lakan and Luomen belong to a noble-like family... who knows what is and isn't in their blood.

No, the brown door is simply wood color, so the brown door & green door would both look like unpainted wood doors, unlike the light blue door that is clearly painted. The anime kind of fucks it up by using too high contrast colors in some of the doors vs more murky ones that would properly trigger the color blindness. IDK why the brown door was dyed a different shade of brown in the anime, instead of just being a brown wooden door

He’s the Emperor’s informant in the rear palace at the very least. “Caretaker” is just a front. He may perform the duties of that role, sure. Nothing happens in the rear palace with out Jinshi, and by extension, the Emperor knowing about it. Especially now that detective Maomao is around. You’d have to be naive to believe that a man of Jinshi’s talent and status would only have the role of “Caretaker”.

WDYM "head of his information network"? That's never been stated to be his role, he's the caretaker of the emperor's garden, simple as. He knows she's Lakan's daughter, because LAKAN LITERALLY GOES ON RANTS ABOUT HER BEING HIS DAUGHTER ALL THE TIME (this wasn't as bad in S1 cour 1, but after cour 2 Lakan has pretty much officially started to stalk her & rant to his underlings etc about her constantly, while referring to her as his "daughter", and he literally already directly stated as much to Jinshi back in S1 too, which we can presume Jinshi told to the emperor, assuming the emperor didn't already know that is

Skebaba

I feel like it’d be crazier if he didn’t know about her being Lakan’s daughter. Jinshi is the head of his information network, and Maomao’s employer, not to mention she is the poison tester for his most beloved concubine. Of course he knows that she’s the secret daughter of his most brilliant tactician.
