But this one is pretty messy lol as a counter-example, My Dress Up Darling resolves most conflicts quickly, and I love it BECAUSE of that, as well as it making the prolonged misunderstandings it DOES have believable. Here, there are so many obvious chances to clear the air that it gets hard to ignore. For example, why didn't Tsubasa ask how long it was gonna be? Let's say he's just too much in shock to ask. Ok sure, I'll accept that! Next, why didn't Fuyuki mention how long it was gonna be? That's usually one of the first things ya mention about a trip, ain't it? Assuming she just didn't think to, she sees him break down into tears right in front of her, stays with him for almost the entire night afterwards, and yet doesn't even ask what's wrong at ANY point. For someone as caring as her, that's incredibly out of character, which is a shame cuz I honestly LOVE Fuyuki as a character. Lemme reiterate, I REALLY DO like this story, I'm caught up to the manga ffs, I just lament how sloppily they handled this part. Like compare this "miscommunication arc" to the first major miscommunication in MDUD, where Marin just doesn't think to tell Gojo she's totally fine waiting for a different con to wear the Shizuku cosplay. It's also resolved in the next episode, but it's far more believable; Marin just drops what SOUNDS like a hard deadline in Gojo's lap and runs off, giving him no chance to clarify. When Gojo's grampa gets injured, Marin assumes that's the cause of his stress, but still reaches out and does lots of small things to help out. The justifications for the misunderstanding fit the story and characters

Also there's the fact that it's literally part of her character to pull something like, "oh it's two weeks".... because her perception of "studying abroad" would definitely be different from Tsubasa's... knowing how she is. So it was really true to her character that happened, and a fucking GOOD thing. It's pretty goddamn lame for sad things to happen merely for the sake of some "storytelling." Who fucking cares about that shit in a romcom? GTFO with that profound deep shit. Save it for an anime that cares. I don't want sad endings in my romcom, nor do I ever care about "what makes good storytelling" blah blah blah. So lame when ppl go on about that bullshit lmao. It's kinda wild and silly you care so much about "storytelling" in a chill and fun romcom. I watch this shit for POSITIVE vibes, not negative vibes. If you wanna be an emotional masochist, go somewhere else lol. Emotional masochists like you who basically believe that every bad thing has to happen for "storytelling" to be "good" peeve the hell outta me.

2024-03-26 04:30:05 +0000 UTCWe did get a bit of that with the whole Tokyo situation but I still think even though it was short it helped the two of them face the realities (mainly Tsubasa cause Fuyuki knew she wasn't gone for good) that they had real feelings for each other and didn't want to be apart like that.

They had a real interesting thing goin for a bit, the last episode left us with a twist that managed to be both a genuine gut punch, but somehow still understated. We could've spent a month or two letting Tsubasa grapple with the fact that this is unquestionably a great thing for his close friend, and yet he not only can't bring himself to be happy for her, he's uncontrollably upset about it, which would hurt all the more cuz HE'S THE DIRECT AND SOLE REASON IT HAPPENED. Jesus Christ, the regret and guilt my boy would feel... It's such a realistic and compelling road block to put in their relationship. But nope, bait n switch tee-hee 😜 I'm pretty sure I unironically facepalmed irl when I read it. Not even the goofy smack forehead kind, like my face buried into both of my palms, slouched over at a 30° angle in my chair, lamenting this minor storytelling decision like it lead to the deaths of my loved ones

I think besides fanservice the other girls even though they like him they will most likely just be his friend group even though they are shown as attracted to Tsubasa. But hey still an enjoyable show.
