This is pretty much the turning point of the series, for me. Agreed that the last 2 episodes were very off-putting. Now that we've seen the show do a full-stop and about-face, the next few episodes will determine whether this show is mid or is a worthy enough contender for the plethora of amazing romance animes we've had over the course of last season.

This is the moment where it’s revealed that Hotaru and Hananoi are not so different from each other. They both want to be loved and they are afraid of hurting other peoples’ feelings, hence abandonment issues.

Congratulations Joe. You let the show cook and it tasted good. Now we'll be adding some more seasoning and see what happens.

After thinking about it this episode sold the show for me. The first two episodes perfectly capture the dissonance between the two’s feelings, resulting in an ‘uncomfortable’ feeling in the first two episodes. But as the two grow closer and their feelings start to align, the third episode captures a sort of harmony where Hotaru begins to fall for Hananoi and their feelings start to match wavelengths. Intentional or not, it made want to keep watching the show.

I still think Hananoi has abandonment issues and after him talking to her on the rink about how she gives back it seems like his idea of love can get almost smothering. I think to him, his parents being gone is because they don’t actually love him, so he’ll go above and beyond to show his partner his worth for them to stay, like searching for her hairpin in a foot of snow or cutting his hair to what she might like. I’m guessing to the girl from E1 probably thought he was overbearing.

It's not funny nor cute enough and their relationship feels very unnatural. That's a drop for me.
