The comic strip transitions are definitely a conscious design aesthetic choice that I've seen work with other animes... not sure they managed to pull it off for this one. It's not bad, by any means... just very inconsistent with the quality, where some scenes look very good while most others feel like they cut too much from the budget

Made it feel like a 2008 YouTube video but I do like the story so far looks like we’re gonna start getting into the rival band stuff soon too. Also I do think this was the first time they did those transitions so hopefully it was just this episode.
