Character Creation: Demand
Added 2017-07-15 04:43:38 +0000 UTCI'd been wanting to write this one for a while, and thank goodness somebody came along and incentivized it. For those who've forgotten/not seen, the Character Creation series is a D&D-inspired series of shorts, each one exploring a different item or spell and how somebody might use it for kicks. (Other posts available here.) If you don't play, Demand is a high-end spell that lets you implant a suggestion in someone at any distance - sort of like your basic post-hypnotic suggestion, but with a lot more oomf and reach.
ALERT: SPOILERS
What I liked about the direction this took was that, as those of you who enjoy fantasy/RPGs well know, it's easy to phrase stuff badly. What a world of difference between a compulsion to gain permission, and a compulsion to act on that permission? The ending takes a bit of a twist, but really, for all the trouble the ladies wind up having in some of my stories, I liked that for once I was allowed to let her get some comeuppance. Moreover, while there's a bit of a humiliation factor in this story, I also dug that she got to enjoy being out of control a bit. (A bit.)
Anyways, my vacation is over and I'm back at it - next week I'll have another commission out, and for my $50+ patrons, look to see the first chapter(s?) of Volume 2 of The Secret of Harmony Reed.

Hmm. There's basically two ways: One is to use "The Wayback Machine" (<a href="http://archive.org/web/)," rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://archive.org/web/),</a> search for "<a href="http://mcstories.com/Authors/index.html" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://mcstories.com/Authors/index.html</a>" (without the quotes), and pick sometime before I took them down. (I tried September 17, and it worked OK.) Then just scroll down to Ice Bear, and voila. Two is to send me a PM with your email, or just email me directly (svalbarding@gmail.com), and I can find digital copies I can send you. Either is fine!

Afrikan Blond
2018-04-15 21:04:56 +0000 UTCThanks! I know it's counter to the genre to allow the victim her comeuppance, but as a DM, I do have to insist that lazily worded spells backfire. :)
