I don't know what plans they have for this show, or if they even have plans after this, but it is a nice starting point if they ever decide to want to continue. Since this is an anime original, they're not really bound or constrained by any source material. As you mentioned, there's still a lot we don't know of such as Kano's dad or the motivations/circumstances of the whole controversy that revolved around her. There's that and, quite possibly controversially, the "yuri-bait" feeling aspect of the show. We got a taste of what could have been a romance being hinted at, but then they kinda just backed off of it and never really gave it a resolution or acknowledgement towards the end. There's still a lot of loose ends they could potentially tie up, assuming the production studio still sees this project as profitable enough and/or generating enough buzz and attention.
