Back at it! (and The Businessman and the Witch Doctor, early release)

I'm back from my trip, and back at the keyboard! Aside from losing my wallet (necessitating a thorough groping by the TSA at the airport for not having an ID, which helped me empathize with a good many of my characters), it was a great week. I started the attached post, The Businessman and the Witch Doctor, before I left, but as so often happens, its scope tremendously out-paced my initial estimates, so I didn't get to finish it until I got back.

So here it is, a piece that began as a funny idea for a play on words and soon became... well, this. (I won't spoil the joke, but you'll know it when you get there.) It's another piece with a victim who retains her own delightful (#sarcasm) personality while being manipulated, though she's not the only one having some frustrations. As always, this is a not-yet-proofread version, but I'll polish it up tonight or tomorrow before it goes out to the world.

Thanks also to the many of you who reached out privately and publicly with support for my last post -- there's nothing like some empathy, patience, and a little forgiveness to get one back in the cockpit and burning the engines. (Is that a phrase? I haven't seen Top Gun in forever.) Anyway, thanks, and more to come!
