They mentioned in the beginning that it was an incident that occurred after the sports festival at the end of season 3 cuz that chapter in the novel never got its own episode (they cut out a lot of scenes and details here and there). They had to show that as a flashback that took place before the current time so that the fight at the end of the second episode would make sense.
