Alchemy of Souls Ep. 1 Reaction [FULL]

Comments

I appreciate you starting this series. I never would have found this show myself and I really enjoyed it. I'm working on my own fantasy novel and this show gave me some great ideas I haven't come across before that I might incorporate into my own work.

Holidor

I'm fairly new to k-dramas too so my list of to watch shows is very long. I'm glad I can cross another one off my list with you.

RHiro

this becomes more apparent to me watching ep 2

I'd say 1 and 2 helped me in some ways. 1. "he was portrayed as not only the creator of the spell, but also the only one with the ability to perform it" this lowkey might help me to piece together more as I'm currently 6 episodes in. Master Lee is aware of the spell and he's the pupil of the OG whos name I forgot. I dont think it was made known to us who trained Jang Gang, but Its safe t assume it can be traced back to the OG that trained Lee. With that said, mastering Hwansu or whatever can cause you basically not to age and idk if its mentioned how that OG master died, so I'm starting to form new theories. 2. "Mages are considered to be 'lawful' and 'good' magic casters, the only acceptable kind of people to control magic" I think this makes me question Jin Mu more. Also "how those rumors got out, who knows." in 3 makes me really believe it was Jin Mu. I'm still not sure of his motives though.

so you were a bit confused on the relations between the adults and the children; this explanation will cover only this episode with NO SPOILERS. some things you understood and this might cover some of that but there is a lot to the plot and re-reading is never a bad thing. There's a lot of info dropped in some of the episodes and it can unfortunately be difficult to those not familiar with either period dramas or the difference between what's being said and how it's translated, to catch everything. 1) Jang Gang is the man who has the ability to perform the Alchemy Of Souls. In the beginning, he was portrayed as not only the creator of the spell, but also the only one with the ability to perform it. You were right in surmising that the King switched souls with him to bed Jang Gang's wife, Do Hwa. The King mentioned before that his biggest regret was not having an heir, which is why he left the note for Jang Gang saying that if Do Hwa has a child, it will be considered his heir. 2) Mages are considered to be 'lawful' and 'good' magic casters, the only acceptable kind of people to control magic. They learn their craft at Songrim, like a magic school/'guild'. 2) Naksu is trained to assassinate mages for some reason, but it's being shown that those she works for, the men in all black with hoodies, are not 'good' guys. 3) The seasons and their relationships are as follows; * Spring = Jin Family - Jin Cho Yeon (pretty girl in pink, daughter of the woman seen in Naksu's trauma flashback) * Summer = Park Family - Park Dang Gu (blonde guy, nephew of the head of Songrim, the man with the long hair that Naksu was trying to kill) * Fall = Seo Family - Seo Yul (man that Naksu recognizes as the boy who gave her the bird whistle when they were kids. This is confusing a bit because Naksu has mistaken the old man from the flashback as a member of the Seo family. He is not.) * Winter = Jang Family - Jang Uk (son of Jang Gang and Do Hwa. you are correct in your thought that since it was the Kings soul in Jang Gang's body, and so to go back to the Kings words, Uk would be considered his son. this would give credence to the rumors that Uk is not really his father's son and that his mom had an affair. how those rumors got out, who knows. at some point in the past, Jang Gang left home, giving more credence to the rumors that Uk isn't his and is in fact being abandoned by his father.) 4) Jang Uk had his spiritual energy blocked by a spell from his father, it is not an item. Because his father was considered the most powerful mage, and the head of one of the most powerful family's, no one is willing to go against him and unlock Uk's energy and give him the ability to cast spells. He is known for being weak (human), because he has no control over his energy, and that's why he says he's sensitive to the cold. While he may not be magically or physically strong, to his benefit he instead spent years reading books and learning the arts through them, so he's full of knowledge, just unable to put it in to practice. Which is why he was able to recognize Naksu's sword style. 5) The alchemy of souls leaves a blue bruise on the left shoulder, indicating that the original soul is no longer in the body. Naksu, for some reason, couldn't find the signature bruise when she woke up in Mu Deok's body. We find out at the end, that the bruise is some how present in her eyes, something that our quick witted lead was able to spot the moment he saw her. I hope this helped, if it's even read. I can't remember if there were more questions you may have had, but I think this covers the main things. The second episode explains more, so I don't want to add more info before it's even presented. I'm also not sure how far ahead you are, if you watch these in advance. So you may have figured out a lot on your own already.

would this not be considered a spoiler?

I’m sorry brother. I can’t resist. The same people bite on Lees too. It’s free real estate

Coping McCoperson

Yea I can tell he’s a troll. He’s in someone else’s comment section doing the same thing😂

Mya

Midphis, can you not do this to people, they don't deserve to be berated by you. Mya and Connie, please ignore this him, he is a troll and I never take anything he says seriously. I'm used to his slander against me.

JoeFreshest

He saw the blue mark in her eyes. The sign of a soul shifter is usually a blue mark on their left shoulder but Naksu/MuDeok has it in her eyes most likely causing her to be able to see while in that body

And you can’t make a valid argument so you’re calling someone a Zionist. Typical. You do have one thing right…free Palestine

Mya

You are what is wrong with the world you Zionist. Free Palestine.

Coping McCoperson

there's literally also nothing wrong with discovering something new and then liking it and wanting to see more...you're allowed to like shows from more than one culture

connie cheng

I’ve been subbed to lee for like 2 or 3 years(not that it matters) and I’ve been subbed to him for a few months. I have no problem answering the question but you still have a problem with being able to communicate in a respectful way. If you’re an adult that’s something you should try to work on! Let’s agree to disagree and maybe not call a random person you don’t know a monkey and a bum😃 there’s no need to be so hateful. If I believed in God I would pray for you.

Mya

Link how long you been subbed bum. You dodge on Lee let’s see it bum

Coping McCoperson

How does liking kdramas make you a culture vulture? You do know anime is also Asian. So, by that logic liking anime would also make a person a culture vulture.

Mya

Oh great. Culture vulture turning on anime fan base

Coping McCoperson
