I'm anime only so maybe I'm just grasping at straws and have the timeline a little confused, but I think you're right about that not being Aqua's dad. One because it wouldn't be very climactic. And mostly because Himekawa is 20 iirc. Aqua is 17. Sine he was 5 when his parents killed themselves that would mean Aqua would have been 2. Ai gave birth to Aqua and Ruby at 16 (or shortly after turning 17) and then CALLED their father to ask if they wanted to meet shortly before her 20th birthday. Meaning we would have had to at least be 3 years old when she talked to him last. The timeline doesn't make sense. The person Himekawa thinks of as his father was never his biological father. That's the only explanation.

To be fair, in the manga they reference how much Aqua has spent on the DNA tests, and it's a shit ton. Basically costing everything he has. But it's just a mail in samples test.
