Ya know what's really crazy about all this that I just realized for the first time? Rem throws his own lines he said to Emilia in his craze back at him in a loving manner (even though she had no idea about their conversation) when she is trying to pick him back up. "I'm sure you have no idea how you saved me..." His whole reason for following emilia was because he felt she saved him too.
